• Phillips continues rehab in OKC, Ruiz hits game-winning HR

Photo by Brandon Sloter/Getty Images Outfielder acquired last week hits 3-run home run in eighth inning for Oklahoma City. Evan Phillips and Tony Gonsolin continued rehab assignments on Wednesday. Tony Gonsolin struck out seven in 3⅓ innings in his second rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday night, which we covered in a separate post. But Gonsolin wasn’t the only Dodgers pitcher on the injured list in action in Round Rock, Texas. Evan Phillips made his third appearance for Oklahoma City, and after a strikeout to open the sixth inning had someone reach on an error, then allowed three singles in a row and a sacrifice fly for three runs (one earned) in his two-out, 25 pitch outing. Here’s what else happened among the minor league Dodgers games on Wednesday night. Player of the day Esteury Ruiz hit a game-winning three-run home run in the eighth inning on Wednesday night, turning a one-run deficit into an eventual two-run win for Oklahoma City. It was the first home run for Ruiz since getting acquired by the Dodgers from the A’s on April 2. Triple-A Oklahoma City The top of the Comets lineup was also involved in the win over the Round Rock Express (Rangers). Hyeseong Kim doubled twice and scored two runs, starting in center field then later moving to second base. Alex Freeland reached base four times with a double, single, and two walks, and is 12-for-23 with 12 RBI over his last five games. Double-A Tulsa Drillers pitchers allowed runs in five of eight innings, and escaped having to pitch the ninth by virtue of losing on the road to the Arkansas Travelers (Mariners). Arkansas tallied 10 hits, six walks, and seven stolen bases, the latter without getting caught. The steals came off the three Tulsa pitchers who allowed runs — starter Peter Heubeck (2... innings, three runs, two steals), Chris Campos (2... innings, four runs, two earned, two steals), and Lucas Wepf (one inning, two runs, three steals). Yeiner Fernández, who was behind the plate for all those steals, had two hits and a walk at the plate, scored a run, and drove in the other for the Drillers. High-A Great Lakes Luke Fox and Noah Ruen took the brunt of the damage, allowing a combined seven runs in a Loons loss to the Lansing Lugnuts (A’s) that was shortened by rain to six innings. Great Lakes’ first run was scored in the first inning when Kendall George singled, stole second, then stole third and took home on an errant throw by the catcher. Low-A Rancho Cucamonga The Quakes were blown out by the Stockton Ports (A’s). Kelton Lindsey had three singles but was caught stealing twice Infielder Elijah Hainline, drafted by the Dodgers in the seventh round last year out of Oregon State had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. He’s 6-for-13 with two doubles in the early going this season. Transactions Triple-A: Landon Knack was called up to start for the Dodgers, and Justin Wrobleski was sent back to Oklahoma City. Double-A: Pitcher Chris Campos was added to the Tulsa active roster and pitcher Jeisson Cabrera was placed on the development list. • Dodgers expecting Freddie Freeman back in lineup Friday

Kirby Lee-Imagn Images The Dodgers went 2-4 on their first road trip of the year, and looked bad in all facets aside from the bullpen. Dodgers hope to have Freddie Freeman return to the lineup on Friday. The Dodgers just completed their first road trip of the season, and it was less than stellar. After starting the season 8-0, they lose four of six against the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals. When the Dodgers return home, they are expected to have Freddie Freeman back in their lineup, manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Wednesday in Washington D.C., per Sonja Chen from MLB.com. Freeman missed the road trip rehabbing his surgically repaired ankle after he twisted it getting out of the shower. It’s good timing both in that the offense can use his bat to lengthen the lineup, and it is his World Series walk-off grand slam bobblehead night. The Dodgers had an incredible rotation to start the season, and a few more really good arms soon to come down the pike. Yet 10 games into the season, the Dodgers find themselves with two Triple-A starters and one Blake Snell on the injured list. That combined with uncharacteristic errors and the offense getting lethargic does not for a great road trip make. Kiké Hernández spoke to reporters including Bill Plunket of the Orange County Register after the game: “When you’re expected to win 162 games in a season and you lose four in a week, it could feel like the world’s ending,” Kiké Hernandez said. “But at the end of the day, we have 148 more. At some point, we were going to play (bad) baseball and it just seemed like this was the week to do that.” Roberts challenged the team to step up in their last game of the trip, and they did, initially. The first four batters scored four runs before recording an out in the top of the first, and then the bats went cold. Still, the Dodgers managed to pull out a win, riding on the tails of the bullpen after Landon Knack had an unsteady start, allowing five runs over 2⅓ innings. The Dodgers are hoping to have Snell back sooner or later. As Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times covers here, the lefty has been dealing with discomfort for the last three weeks. However, imaging and a meeting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache confirm that Snell will not need an injection or other procedure at this time. Dodger fans hope to return to their winning ways against the Chicago Cubs starting Friday evening. The Dodgers already took two-of-three from the Cubs in the first two games of the regular season in Japan.

  • Tony Gonsolin takes next step in rehab assignment

Photo by David Durochik/Diamond Images via Getty Images Dodgers RHP struck out seven in 3⅓ innings on Wednesday night for Oklahoma City in his second rehab start. In a perfect world, Tony Gonsolin would continue to progress on his minor league rehab assignment, continuing to build up his innings much like a spring training plan. But a potential Dodgers need for a major league starting pitcher next week could complicate things. For his part, Gonsolin was fantastic on Wednesday night in Triple-A Oklahoma City, striking out seven in his 3⅓ innings against the Round Rock Express in Texas. Gonsolin allowed only a single, walk, and an unearned run in his outing. Tony Gonsolin allowed 1 unearned run and 1 hit over 3.1 innings during tonight's rehab start in Round Rock. He notched 7 strikeouts and threw 46 total pitches. pic.twitter.com/qo9wt97HFz— Oklahoma City Comets (@OKC_comets) April 10, 2025 Gonsolin among his 46 pitches ht got 14 swinging strikes, including eight in 12 swings on the splitter alone. He pitched 1⅔ scoreless innings last Thursday in his first rehab start for Oklahoma City. The Dodgers won’t rush Gonsolin back from the back tightness that sidelined him during spring training. As Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register noted Wednesday, Dave Roberts said this week he’d like to stretch to five or six innings before returning. But this hasn’t stopped them before. In 2023, Gonsolin injured his ankle in spring training and missed the first month of the season. The initial plan for his rehab was to pitch four innings in his first start in Triple-A, then go five innings in another rehab start before getting activated. What did happen was Gonsolin struck out seven in three-plus innings for Oklahoma City, then was pressed into major league duty the next time out even though he wasn’t fully stretched out. Gonsolin in his first game back with the Dodgers pitched 3⅓ scoreless innings but was pulled after 65 pitches. As for this year’s Dodgers, they will have another stretch of six days in a row with a game starting Friday, and the trio of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, and Tyler Glasnow starting for the second weekend in a row, plus Dustin May next week. But they’ll still need to fill innings for Tuesday and Wednesday against the Rockies. Landon Knack may or may not stay in the rotation slot earmarked for Blake Snell, who will miss at least one more start on the injured list. Justin Wrobleski was optioned on Wednesday and must remain in the minors for 15 days unless returning to replace another injured player. Bobby Miller would be the other major-league-ready starter in Triple-A, and they have Nick Frasso who has gone two, two, and three innings in his three games if the Dodgers opt for a bullpen game for one of those games. Or they could just turn to Gonsolin for what would be a shorter start but perhaps not all that different than what they might expect from the other options.
