NATHAN J. FISH/THE OKLAHOMAN / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Mike Sirota and Kendall George lead Great Lakes offense In Dodgers minor league action on Saturday, June 14th, we had three wins and a rainout, the always exotic “cycle”, and Sean Linan continues to impress. Player of the day Michael Chavis hit for the cycle in Oklahoma City’s one-run victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (Rockies), netting him the POTD. The 29-year-old veteran infielder has been hitting in the middle of the Comets’ batting order and has been having a productive year with a hitting line of .281/.345/.532. The winning rally began with two outs and nobody on base. Chavis doubled to complete the cycle, Hunter Feduccia singled him in to tie the game, and singles by Esteury Ruiz and Steward Berroa produced the game winner. After the Comets took the lead in the top of the ninth, Noah Davis finished things with a scoreless inning to notch his first save. High-A Great Lakes The Loons scored nine runs in the first five innings, and Sean Linan held the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers) to one run in four and two-thirds innings as the Loons coasted to a 9-2 victory. The 20-year-old Linan, pitching in High-A now after starting games in Low-A and Triple-A, struck out seven and walked none. He surrendered just one run on a solo home run by Tayden Hall. The offense was led by Mike Sirota, who had three hits, and Kendall George, who drove in four runs a day after getting ejected. Low-A Rancho Cucamonga The Quakes defeated the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels) 6-4. Mairoshendrick Martinus, who is trying to break Todd Hollandsworth’s record for longest name in Dodger history, drove in two runs with three hits. - Notes: Hyeseong Kim, Emmet Sheehan, Kiké Hernández
Jason Parkhurst-Imagn Images Saturday night marked the first time Dodgers infielder/outfielder Hyeseong Kim and Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee played in the same major league game. Both were teammates in on the Kiwoom Heroes (formerly the Nexen Heroes) from 2017-23 in the KBO, and both played together on the South Korean national baseball team. Sonja Chen at MLB.com talked to both players prior to this weekend’s matchup: “It’s going to be very special,” Kim said. “We were drafted together, we’ve played together, but now we’re facing each other in the big leagues. It’s special that we’re in the same division. It’s going to be very exciting.” Kim on Saturday had an RBI single, while Lee walked once. After we talked yesterday morning about several rehabbing Dodgers and the possibility of Emmet Sheehan returning soon, manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Sheehan will start one of the four games against the Padres, though hasn’t yet specified which game. Sheehan, who struck out seven and allowed four runs in 3⅓ innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City, had a 3.97 ERA and struck out 21 against only one walk in 11⅓ innings in his four rehab starts, with a 44.7-percent strikeout rate. The right-hander was at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. From Doug Padilla for the Orange County Register: “This year and last year, the team being so good, I just wanted to be able to contribute and do my part and not be able to do that, it did suck, but now it’s nice to be at the end of the process,” Sheehan said in the locker room Saturday. Kiké Hernández posted on Instagram on Saturday about the protests this week in Los Angeles: “I may not be Born & Raised, but this city adopted me as one of their own. I am saddened and infuriated by what’s happening in our country and our city. Los Angeles and Dodger fans have welcomed me, supported me and shown me nothing but kindness and love. This is my second home. And I cannot stand to see our community being violated, profiled, abused and ripped apart. ALL people deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and human rights. #CityOfImmigrants”
- Kershaw picks up win no. 27 against the Giants
Ryan Sun-Imagn Images Kershaw tosses seven shutout innings, Dodgers hit four home runs to even the series against the Giants. The Dodgers bounced back against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, as the offense gave Clayton Kershaw an abundance of run support in an 11-5 romp of the Giants. Prior to the start of Saturday’s contest, Joe Kelly was issued his 2024 World Series championship and a gold lettered championship jersey. Welcome back to Dodger Stadium, Joe. Congratulations Champ on the new ring! pic.twitter.com/r9OdQXbuJF— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) June 15, 2025 Shohei Ohtani wasted no time against right-hander Landon Roupp, as he crushed his 24th home run of the season on the fourth pitch of the game, his first since June 2 against the New York Mets. Start it off, Shohei! pic.twitter.com/1a4a2oIJ4j— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) June 15, 2025 The Dodgers opened up the second inning with two consecutive walks to Teoscar Hernández and Max Muncy, allowing Andy Pages to knock in Hernández with an RBI single. Michael Conforto connected for an RBI double against his former team, allowing Muncy to score and pushing the lead to three. Roupp was able to keep Hyeseong Kim off the bases before intentionally walking Ohtani to load the bases. The decision failed to work, as Mookie Betts drove in a pair of runs on a double. Will Smith’s sacrifice fly pushed the lead to six and knocked Roupp out of the game before the second inning came to an end. How about five in the second? pic.twitter.com/C9Eg1hNp4I— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) June 15, 2025 After the first six hitters for the Giants failed to reach base, designated hitter Jerar Encarnación began the top of the third inning with a double. Kershaw quickly left him stranded after a strikeout of Tyler Fitzgerald and the following two hitters flying out. The Giants threatened again to lead off the fifth inning with a leadoff double from Dominic Smith, but Kershaw managed to leave him stranded as he recorded his fifth shutout inning. Shohei Ohtani led off the bottom of the sixth inning against Tristan Beck, and after loading the count full, he reached out for a curveball outside the zone, pulling it just over the right-center field wall for his second home run of the night and his 250th home run of his major league career. SHOHEI DOES IT AGAIN! pic.twitter.com/hxgNP8hwvj— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) June 15, 2025 Teoscar Hernández continued his power streak with a two-run shot against Beck, his third home run in as many games and just his fourth since being activated from the injured list. Kershaw has now tossed 12 consecutive scoreless innings, and his fifth strikeout of the night brought him to 2,988 for his career. Miguel Rojas joined in on the offensive barrage, launching a home run off of position player Logan Porter to push the Dodger lead to 11 runs. Miggy Ro! pic.twitter.com/zwVcPxcIzE— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) June 15, 2025 Kiké Hernández came on to pitch for the second time this week, ruining the Dodgers’ shutout opportunity as Casey Schmitt launched his second grand slam against the Dodgers in as many games. A throwing error from Miguel Rojas helped San Francisco score five runs in the inning, before Anthony Banda came in to record the final out and even the series against the Giants. The Dodgers are now a perfect 3-0 on City Connect Saturdays this season.
